Q's & A's
Down below we've tried to answer questions many of you might have. We clarify things like the materials you can and can't use, runway standards and more. Have a read, and if you still have questions, head to the contact us page and send us a message.
IMFAB 'one look' entry.
The IMFAB one look entry can consist of more than one item of clothing that combined present as one look. Typically this could be a suit, comprising jacket pants, shirt and vest. Or maybe a skirt, top and jacket. There's no added value in the number of layers as long as the 'look' is complete. Equally a single item like a stunning dress also qualifies as 'one look'.
Materials to consider.
The successful IMFAB fashion entry we're looking for is more high fashion and less wearable art. Ideally not anything that will potentially dismantle itself on the runway. (Imagine that!)
For example, actual leaves, branches and/or remnants of tree bark are not materials you would normally feel comfortable wearing while hanging out with friends. Reinventing recycled clothing is fine as it addresses sustainability. Be mindful of items that are culturally appropriate, always check with someone who can advise.
Getting help and support.
Although we encourage you to reach out to friends, whānau and teachers for support, we trust that you will do most of the designing, creating and constructing yourself. Remember, we are looking for designs that are unique to you! Things you might get help for is getting advice or feedback, sourcing materials, modelling or photographing your garment, styling and accessorising your 'one look'. You've got this!
When will the winners be announced?
The competition closes on August 10th and we plan to announce the winners shortly after. A photoshoot with professional models will be organised in the lead up to New Zealand Fashion Week, and we will be working with you throughout the month of August to prepare for the runway. We might even get some cool footage of you to share with family and friends!
When is New Zealand Fashion Week?
New Zealand Fashion Week is from the 23rd-29th August. Our two shows, whicj you will be opening, is on the 26th and 28th so be sure to save the date!
Can me and a friend enter together?
We encourage individual entries but if you want to collaborate with a friend, that's cool too.
